One of the few cruise lines with the ability to offer two types of cruising in one trip, Viking has announced several 2019 itineraries that combine time on both river and ocean cruise ships.

The first of these sailings, which transports passengers between a Viking Longship on the Rhine River to a coastal Norwegian fjord cruise, debuts in June 2018 and will also be offered June 2, 2019. The 15-night Rhine & Viking Shores & Fjords itinerary travels on the Rhine between Basel and Amsterdam, visiting Cologne and the Black Forest. In Amsterdam, passengers are transferred to a Viking Oceancruise ship to sail the North Sea to Skagen, Denmark, before debarking in Bergen. The reverse itinerary (ocean cruise to Amsterdam followed by river cruise to Basel) can also be booked on the same sail dates.

The Grand European & Viking Fjords sailing will be offered May 26, 2019, and June 2, 2019. The 22-night itinerary will cruise the Danube and Rhine rivers on a Viking Longship, running from Budapest to Amsterdam. There, passengers will board a Viking Ocean ship and sail a Norwegian fjords cruise that stops in Stavanger and Flam before ending in Bergen. The reverse itinerary is also available on the two sail dates.

“Our guests are experienced travelers who appreciate immersive cultural experiences, while also exploring the world in comfort,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking. “Only Viking can provide a destination-focused voyage that marries the river and sea into a single, unified journey. With one flight, our guests can experience both of our award-winning cruise products, making it even easier for them to explore the world.”  – source
