CRUISE REVIEW - PACIFIC SKY TROPICAL QLDPosted 09 Dec 04 We love cruising, and, in fact, this is our 5th cruise in 18 months! We have just returned from a 7 day Queensland coastal cruise and I must say it is a great way to enjoy our wonderful country.
Pacific Sky is an older ship but it is a very happy and friendly ship. The crew are very welcoming and do everything to ensure everyone's needs are catered for. This was our 3rd cruise on her. She has had to endure some hard knocks from the media recently which she doesn't deserve. After all these things do happen from time to time.
We sailed from Brisbane on a warm Saturday afternoon. Our first port of call was The Whitsunday's after a day at sea with perfect weather. Anchoring off shore was great as there are so many tours available which can be taken directly from the ship on catamarans, racing yachts, para gliding and many more.
The full days stay is excellent as everyone enjoyed their day and there was ample time to do more than one tour. At the end of the days we watched the sunset as we sailed onward to our next destination. Next morning we anchored off Cairns and there was a flotilla waiting to transport passengers to their various chosen tours. Throughout the cruise we enjoyed 'Theme nights' which are always great fun. There were two formal nights, a country and western night, island night and a' fright night', and a great time was had by all dressing up for the occasion. If you hadn't bought anything with you there was plenty on board to purchase very cheaply from the on board boutiques. Remembing everything is payed for in Australian dollars.
Continuing on our coastal cruise, the sun set as we sailed on toward Port Douglas. Once again there were many tours offered, to islands, Cape Tribulation, Daintree River etc. A full day there to enable everyone to enjoy this wonderful area to the maximum.
Finally we sailed by Willis Island, approximately 240kms off the mainland, an island well known for supplying the Meteorological reports. We enjoyed an at sea day we cruised on 'millpond' seas back to Brisbane as we cruised we were joined by approximately 4 dolphins, a beautiful sight. Arriving back in Brisbane on Saturday makes this cruise ideal for those who can only manage a week off work, even leaving a much needed day to recover before being thrown back into the real world again on Monday.
A well worthwile cruise, enjoying our lovely coastline of Queensland. Try it you'll love it.
