CRUISE REVIEW - CELEBRITY INFINITY 18 NIGHT ALASKA & HAWAIIPosted 08 Dec 04 The itinerary was good although the weather was not kind to us on the Alaska part which was to be expected on the last cruise of the season. Some people thought it was a bit rough up there but it didn’t worry the big ship and one of the advantages of being on level 2 in an inside cabin was that you woke up in the morning and hadn’t noticed any ship movement. The inside cabin was great – I would book same again in future and spend the money saved on the wine bill! It was quiet on our floor and we didn’t have other people wandering around there – only those from our floor. It was certainly the best place to be if the sea got a bit rough. The cabin was roomy and comfortable. The only thing you might want to tell your future clients is to take a clock – when you wake up after going to bed it’s dark and you don’t know if it’s 1am or 11am – had to get up to the bathroom to check the watch. Food on the ship was good – though very American – they don’t know how to do a good salad. The food wasn’t a patch on the variety and presentation of the food on the Gemini. This is not a complaint – I would have eaten Pal and kibbles for the price we paid. Wine onboard was expensive – we like a bottle every night with dinner and had to pay at least $35US for a cheap bottle of rough Chilean wine – a bit much when we are used to beautiful Margaret River wines over here at very affordable prices. We had a couple of bottles in our cabin but they charged $15US corkage per bottle. The entertainment onboard was world class – the singers and dancers were outstanding – there was standing room only every night. We went to all the shows again on the second part of the cruise ( except for the juggler! ) The tipping worried us for most of the cruise and everyone we talked to had different ideas. The Americans just paid the suggested amount and the Aussies thought it was too much and all had varying ideas. A couple of nights before the end of each part of the cruise a note came from management which we could sign and the recommended amount went on your bill. If you did not return the signed note the next night several envelopes were placed in your room with the appropriate staff member’s name on it and you could place whatever amount you wanted to tip inside and give it personally to those people. Or you could do nothing. Most Aussies seemed to give half the recommended amount or less. That’s all I can think of. Thanks so much for all you did for us. If you get another deal like this can you keep us on your email list please? Merry Christmas |
